There are many short bridges crossing streams that empty into the New River. This one is between Allisonia and Draper, Virginia. 
Some bridges on this trail have little alcoves where you can take a break over the river and be out of the way of traffic.

This is also between Allisonia and Draper, Virginia. The river is wide here. This is where it backs up as it runs in to Claytor Lake. 
This is a view of the trail which follows Chestnut Creek from Galax to where the creek joins the New River and the main trail.
